The title of this journal, Yellowcake, is derived from my literary fascination with the color yellow and it’s subtexts (a la The Yellow Wallpaper, The King in Yellow, etc.), particularly when it comes to gothic tales and fiction of the weird. I also have a big soft spot for science fiction, apocalyptic narratives and cyberpunk, so that plays in with the title, too, in that yellowcake is also uranium oxide, the first step in producing enriched, weapons-grade uranium. The word, then, conjures for me notions of sweet, domestic treats, tinged with madness and atomic theory, potentially resulting in the collapse of human civilization.
As I’m one of those insufferable Liberal Arts types, this spells fun times indeed.
